How to set up Malta IPTV on Firestick

The Fire TV Stick is the favourite way to put Malta IPTV on a television — and the route with the most steps, because Amazon does not stock IPTV players in its store, so the app is sideloaded through a small utility called Downloader. It is a well-worn path that takes about ten minutes. Everything below works on the Fire TV Stick, the 4K and 4K Max, and the Fire TV Cube.

  • Any Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube or television with Fire TV built in
  • Your username, password and server URL from the subscription email
  • The APK address from our Downloads page — jot it down before you begin

Step-by-Step Setup

Firestick Installation

1
settings

Reveal Developer Options

On newer Fire OS versions, Developer Options stays hidden until you summon it. Go to Settings > My Fire TV > About, highlight "Fire TV Stick" and press select seven times — a message confirms you are now a developer. Older devices show the menu already; in that case, skip ahead.

2
lock_open

Allow Installs from Downloader

Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options > Install Unknown Apps and switch it on for Downloader specifically. The per-app grant is deliberate rather than a global switch — it is safer, and it is all this process needs.

3
download

Install the Downloader App

From the home screen, search for "Downloader" by AFTVnews and install it — a free, legitimate utility inside Amazon’s own store for fetching files the store does not carry. Open it once and grant the storage permission it asks for.

4
install_desktop

Download & Install the Player

In Downloader, type the APK address from our Downloads page into the URL field and press Go. Type carefully — the remote makes mistakes easy, and a mistyped address is the usual reason nothing downloads. When the file finishes, the installer opens by itself: choose Install, then Done, then Delete to reclaim space, because the Stick has very little to spare.

5
login

Open the App & Login

You will find the app under Your Apps & Channels — it lands at the far end of the row, so use the menu button to bring it forward. Open it and enter the username and password from your subscription email. Using a general player instead, choose "Xtream Codes API" and add the server URL as well.

6
play_circle

Start Streaming

The channel list, guide and on-demand library load in. Browse the categories with the remote, and hold select on any channel to favourite it — with a keyboard-less remote, favourites are what make the service pleasant day to day.

Common problems

Fixes specific to Firestick

Downloader reports the download failed

Recheck the address one character at a time — the remote keyboard invites transposition, and Downloader reports any wrong address as a failure rather than a missing page. Make sure you entered it in full, extension included.

"Insufficient storage" during install

The Stick ships with remarkably little free space. Delete the downloaded APK from inside Downloader once installed, and clear the caches of apps you do not use under Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.

Channels buffer on a 4K Stick

Turn off Data Monitoring under Settings > Preferences (it throttles streams) and use a 5 GHz network. If the Stick is tucked behind the TV, heat and blocked Wi-Fi are both genuine issues — the HDMI extender in the box exists for exactly that reason.
